about me

I like lemons. Almost everything I cook has lemons in it. A salad isn’t a salad if there isn’t some fresh-squeezed lemon juice in the dressing…make that 2 or 3 fresh-squeezed lemons. Maybe this is part of my Greek heritage, or maybe it’s just because I really like them. I love to cook for my family and friends and share my love of food with them. I hope to share with you some of those dishes as well as others prepared by talented friends and chefs. Oh, and I love wine and taking pictures of food to make my friends drool.

To finance my love of good food and good wine, I’m a middle school and high school choir director by day and a semi-professional singer/pianist by night.

And I suppose I should mention since I spent the first half of my life growing up in Japan, and I’m half Cypriot, half American, my food preferences are all over the map!

  1. Hi there,

My name is Sue, and found your blog today thru WordPress – it captured my interest! I’m from SlimKicker (a healthy living/fitness app), and was wondering if we can do a giveaway for your blog readers?

Our site basically turns people’s health/fitness goals into a level up game with challenges such as quitting soda for a week. We’re looking for new challenge ideas, so was thinking of holding a contest where your readers leave a comment on a health challenge idea, and we’ll pick our favorite challenge idea, use it on our site, and give the winner either a free digital health scale, slow cooker, or digital heart monitor.

Let me know if you’re interested by email: sue (at) slimkicker.com

PS. You can choose not to publish this comment since it’s not really a comment, I just couldn’t find your email address =)

    Best,
    Sue

  2. Hey Yvonne! You started following my blog so I wanted to check out your blog and say, “Hi!” I love lemons too!! In fact, I just planted a lemon tree in my backyard. I’ve been reading through your blog, and I love it! Do you follow a plant-based diet all the time? Wonderful to e-meet you! Celeste πŸ™‚

    • Thanks for visiting! I appreciate your kind comments πŸ™‚ I am currently following Mark Bittman’s “Vegan Before 6” plan. My parents are doing it for health reasons and I started doing it initially for moral support but then after reading the book, I really thought it made sense. So I eat plant-based for 2 out of 3 meals a day, although I often end up eating all 3 plant-based… πŸ™‚

  3. I’ve never heard of Mark Bittman’s Vegan Before 6 – I’ll have to check that out. My husband and I started out by eating plant-based Monday – Friday. We thought it would be too hard to do it all the time. And it was at first, but after a while we started to really like eating plant-based. We just had to get used to it. Then we watched the movie Vegucated and that opened our eyes to the horrible ways animals are treated on factory farms which added an ethical component to how we eat.

Anyway, I’m so happy that you and your parents have discovered plant-based eating. I look forward to more of your posts! Celeste πŸ™‚

  4. Hey! Just came across your blog. That’s so interesting that you’re from Japan. I grew up there πŸ™‚ Love new vegetarian recipe ideas and your blog seems fantastic. I will be following πŸ™‚
